Solex 8000
« on: January 31, 2010, 09:51:11 AM »

I want one of these!!!

The VeloSoleX Tenor / 8000 (49cc, 1.4 hp) is made which is similar to the Flash with a new 49 cc Franco Morini engine with Dell'Orto SHA 14/12 carburettor. The "L" model is equipped with a double seat, visible rear springs and indicators. The "S" model is available only in yellow. After 6 months, the "R" model appears without rear springs at the back and with an enameled steel mudguard. The "L" and "S" models are replaced by the "GL" and "GS" models with a 49 cc, 2.12 hp Ankler-Laura engine and cylinder tilted at 25°. It has an Encarwi S 31 carburettor with a 12 mm venturi. The last Tenor model is the "S4" with a 4-speed Franco Morini engine with manual clutch and foot gear-selector, available only in "bright red".

solex tenors arent that rare really, but they are scarce in america to the point of basically not existing here.

heres the solex flash, stock disk brake in the rear....pretty strange for an early 70s moped. theyre fucking UUUUGLY though. the tenor however was actually a good looking bike, very maxi-esque...only problem was every part of the frame is a structural component, so you cant really strip them down at all.

Tenor S4...top of the Solex line....4-speed transmission, Franco Morini engine.

The later Tenors, and the ones that made it to Canada used the Ankar Laura engine.

Never seen a Tenor/8000 in the US, unless it had come from Canada. Same for the Flash/6000 shaft-drive Solexes.

The disc brake on the rear of the Flash/6000 is useless...stainless steel disc...no bite from the pads. But it's a wild feeling riding a Solex that goes 30 mph! here's my 6000:

I want them...

Brian, do you have any photos of the Laura engine? I am curious to see what they made other than the m48/m56

Tom,
It is the M54 and the M56 engines. In Canada, the M54.... most other countries, the M56.

On this page, towards the bottom, under GL & GS, you can see photos and engine diagrams. Just click on the thumbnail pix to get the larger versions:
